FME Plug
FME plugs with integral radiation shielding are very effective in mitigation of radiation during maintenance or replacement of radioactive piping or valves, especially large bore components such as heat removal systems. Foam-lined, magnetic and tapered plugs are some of the designs we developed.
When replacing piping components or valves, the FME plug is installed in the remaining pipe ends immediately after removal of the component or valve. The FME plug provides radiation shielding and FME control simultaneously during weld preparation of the remaining pipe ends.
The FME plugs can contain a high temperature coating layer for pipes where there are nearby heat sinks caused by localized welding. Straps can be installed for installation and removal and colors can be used as indicators when using various pipe sizes.
